Things continue to be a little different year, but with Christmas soon upon us (and 2022 disappearing in a flash) we figured now would be a good time to talk about cute Christmas hairstyles (as even if you’re staying in, you’ll undoubtedly be thinking about finishing the year in style).
We’ve opted for a few of the most cute and glamorous Christmas hairstyles, but don’t let that fool you: all of them are incredibly easy to achieve and maintain. All of these styles are heatless, so don’t worry about damaging your hair, and protective, so you can look your best while letting your hair relax.
1. Stretched Updo

This is a super chic and romantic hairstyle that reminds us of a Disney Princess! If your hair has already been stretched, put most of it up in a high bun, and finger curl the front hair (or use heatless tools like rollers) to form pretty curtain curls. Prepare yourself to get loads of looks.
2. Natural Ponytail

Let your curls be free with this easy, protective look. With a natural ponytail, you get to show off your hair, keep it out of your face and look fabulous all at the same time.
Editor’s tip: Just as you wash and moisturise your face each day, you need to regularly cleanse your scalp. Avoid using a sulphate-based shampoo (most shelf obtained shampoos will strip your hair of its natural oils) and opt for a sulphate-free shampoo like Swish instead. These shampoos will not only cleanse your scalp but also help it to retain moisture and healthy oils.
3. Bantu Knots

Another protective hairstyle, bantu knots have been worn by African women for centuries. Bantu knots, while they have “knots” in their name, are essentially small buns that are achieved when strands of hair are twisted together to make knots.
Also, this particular hairstyle is heatless and very versatile in that you can style the knots as you wish — large or small, braided or with locs.
Editor’s tip: Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! Afro hair tends to break very easily, and the easiest way to avoid that is to moisturise. Protect your hair by moisturising it as soon as you wash it. Consider using a liquid-based moisturiser (much healthier and restorative) and lock that moisture in using an oil (as water evaporates quickly). Lastly, layer on a cream to finish the job.
