T

he Milan and London Fashion Week packed several punches in the style department last week. Indeed, the future of 2023 street style was subtly decided as style enthusiasts hit the streets in non-conforming getups. The fashion game continued over the weekend at the NAACP Image Awards where Black stars spruced things up in hot takes that made it impossible to doubt their pro level.

Red carpet favorites like Zendaya made an award carpet comeback after her last red carpet slay at the 2022 EMMY awards. Elsewhere, we couldn’t help but drool over Queen Latifah hosting the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP Awards) in a Tony Ward couture dress with all-over organza ruffles. Drapes, cutouts, and uneven silhouettes made up the chunk of striking looks on black celebs last week. It seems the stars unanimously agreed there wasn’t room for basic style takes.

The Looks

It’s impossible to be badly dressed in a suit with a well-tailored finish. Savannah James is proof of this truth, as she graced the Gucci Fall/Winter 2023 in a suave suit by the brand. The silver details on the pants, the fancy buttons burrowed in the jacket, the sleek laid-back tresses, the matching pumps and bag, and the poise that emanated from this look created the top-tier boss chic status only Mrs. James could give.

Zendaya showed up at the 54th NAACP Image Awards to remind us that no one slays the carpet as she does. The star girl popped onto the red carpet in a black and green Versace number, understated Bulgari jewelry, edgy black nail polish, an old Hollywood bob haircut, and the IT Girl personality. She undoubtedly spoke “I’m back” fluently in fashion.

American actress Quinta Brunson brought the baddie personality to our screens in a Jean-Louis Sabaji number for the NAACP Awards. The number’s shell-like details and swaying frills matched the drama the night required. In addition, the embellishment in between the shell detailing was the extra touch of classy. The hairdo and jewelry hit all the right spots without trying hard. A baddie in her full glory. We stan!
