nother week, another time for celebrities to obliterate “ordinary” from the fashion dictionary. The week was indeed a seasoned one, with events that smoked out a bevy of Black Hollywood fashionistas. These stars easily hit the mark as spotted on the 4th rendition of the SAVAGE X FENTY show where actor Johnny Depp also made a controversial cameo. In addition, the pulchritudinous looks at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (CFDA) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere were notable fashion highlights of the week.

The Looks

If deep red isn’t in your top five colors to rock this season, add it to the list ASAP. Black-ish star and youngest Hollywood producer Marsai Martin made a case for the hue in a Sebastian Gunawan look on the Savage X FENTY red carpet. The ensemble featured a feathered mini skirt worn effortlessly with a crystal-embellished bralette and satin cropped blazer. The star matched the detailing on the top with gold Stuart Weitzman sandal heels. As they say, the attention is in the details.

“Wa kan da” red hot elegance has star girl Lupita Nyong’o pulling on the red carpet lately. While that might sound cheesy, we’re only keeping up with the latest internet pun trends. And what else are we keeping up with? Ms. Nyong’o’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere outfits. For the Mexican premiere, she donned a Jonathan Cohan red flowy cape and a black leather dress underneath. Although the cape swaddled Nyong’o elegantly, it didn’t overwhelm her silhouette. The black leather number was snatched—a direct contrast from the cape’s offering. The revealing of this impeccably structured dress, its slithering slit, and of course, her entire aura, explains why the fit was named “Birth of a rose”.

The topic and the top pick are the only descriptions of South African media personality Bonang Matheba in a yellow form-fitting Gert-Johan Coetzee dress. The frock’s bodice featured a cutout with heavy embellishments placed at the cutout’s hem—the literal highlight of this fit. Alongside the greatness of this look was the star honored with the Standard Bank Top Women Media Personality of the Year Award, presented by the iconic Yvonne Chaka Chaka. As a woman who stays winning, dressing the part isn’t much of an option.
