The 2023 Met Gala dress code was “in honor of Karl.” The exhibition sees Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s Wendy Yu Curator in Charge, examine the work of Karl Lagerfeld (1933–2019).

As a result of this, there were a lot of pearl-inspired looks as that seemed to be an attribute of Karl’s designs. However, it baffling how celebrities of that status were very limited when it came to impressing either by extravagance or by sheer beauty.

Some of the clothes looked half done, some were far from the theme, some of the celebrities looked like they were dressed for a basket ball game, and overall this was far from the standards of an international fashion appeal event. Nigerians serve this for breakfast on their birthdays.

And let’s not even talk about the clowns whose pictures are floating all over the net when you don’t want to see any MET Gala updates.

When it comes to pearl dress, rest assured little to know Nigerian nor African for that matter was impressed. I mean beads and pearls? Duh? African culture and tradition?

Nigerian is home to many of the fabulous Aso Ebi designs that have been going viral, and by far there has been a heap of pearl dresses that have dropped jaws beyond belief.

We decided to take a few pearl outfit examples from Nigerian designer brands Luminee Couture, Erica Moore and Becca Needles & Stitches. Obviously, without the acknowledgment of being extravagant, these outfits can still smash any look that was brought forth to the MET Gala, which in all honesty was unimpressive.

So to level the playing field, we decided to quickly grab a few and share them with you so you can imagine how your favorite celebrity would have stolen the show in them.
