ver wondered why some ladies manage to be stylish in any outfit? It doesn’t matter if they head out in an unassuming t-shirt and jeans or a beguiling frock, they ace it every time. Before you throw your hands in the air in resignation that you don’t have what it takes to nail any look at any time, you should know that these ladies really don’t have a special trait they were born with. Rather, they’ve mastered the coveted art of intentional fashion.

You might run on a busy schedule, and if that’s the case, it gets stressful to put together your fits on the go. Looking stylish every time isn’t always a function of your bank account, and to be honest, it isn’t a spiritual gift rendered to a select few. There are tips and tricks to apply to keep a satisfyingly stylish wardrobe. It doesn’t need to be exhausting, but with practice and knowledge, it becomes effortless.

The number one rule of fashion is to be comfortable in your skin and love what you wear. Don’t dress up solely because it’s trendy or expensive, but truly loving what you wear and making it your own is solid. When you know what you want, it’s easy to play on trends in a way that resonates with your personality.

Check out how to look good and effortlessly stylish every day…

#1. Find your style

One easy way to know your style is to look at your wardrobe to find out what makes you feel happy and confident. It could be minimal or sassy. This will help you know the items to easily infuse into your wardrobe during your next shopping session. There are no off-fashion days when you know exactly how you want to look.

#2. Know your body type

One of the reasons you may not look stylish every time could be that you’re dressing for the wrong body type. Do some research and find out what body type you have and the best outfits that compliment your silhouette. Once that’s done, you realize there are no wrong bodies, only ill-fitting outfits.

#3. Evict what no longer serves you

That dress you purchased because it was on sale or the shirt you inherited from your aunt two decades ago has to go. Take a stern look at your wardrobe (I assure you this would take a lot of willpower to do), and get rid of dated clothes, the ones you never wore, the outfits you never styled right, and the ones you think are “just okay.

This could be an emotional process as some of us attach memories to clothes. You could keep your mom’s clothes in a separate box if that makes you feel better. Also, if the aim is to look stylish every time, consider not wearing them when heading out. It’s time for the badass modish part of yourself to emerge.

#4. Stock up on staples

Rather than shop for the trendiest pieces every time, be conscious of building a formidable wardrobe. One way to do that is to have staples like jeans, classic blazers, button-down shirts, and a little black dress. The aforementioned items aren’t all there is, but it’s a good place to start. In addition, think of versatile and timeless pieces you love to wear which can be easily styled in various ways. This way, you’re not stuck with a fancy skirt that you will never wear.

#5. Wear your fit

If you’re still trying to figure out how to always look good, avoid sloppy outfits—they only make it worse. Learn how to balance proportions. If you’re rocking oversize pants, keep things at the torso tailored. This way, you don’t overwhelm your figure. While there are exceptions, like a full-on take on the oversize fashion trend, even these have their set rules. And trust me, they’re not called exceptions just for fun.

#6. Shop strategically

Now that you know your style and have formed a capsule wardrobe, think about items that will elevate your look. Invest in items like a chic handbag or chic shoes that tally with your daily routine. If your job requires you to be on your feet, shop for ballet flats or sneakers, rather than a fancy heel you’ll only wear on a few occasions. This isn’t to say, you shouldn’t cop fancy heels too, but for starters, it’s best to buy what you need.

#7. Plan your outfits

Most of us love to play dress up, but our busy schedules might have snatched this pleasure from us. But if you are always on the move and wouldn’t mind looking stylish every time, one of the best ways to achieve that is by planning your outfits ahead of time. Pick a day and try on your week’s outfit (please don’t do this styling in your head, or you’d be surprised). Once you have your week’s looks on lockdown, it eliminates the chances of a style rut and perhaps Monday morning sartorial-induced mental breakdown.
