Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, a model with a Nigerian father and a South African mother, has impressively advanced to the Top 13 of Miss South Africa 2024. Born and raised in Soweto, Chidimma’s success in the competition has unfortunately attracted the attention of a gang of xenophobic South Africans with questionable twitter accounts.
In response to these comments, the Miss SA organisation issued a statement clarifying the situation: “All documentation provided by entrants is screened and vetted. Chidimma is a South African citizen and has met all the requirements to be a part of the Miss South Africa competition. Her mother is South African (Zulu), and her father is Nigerian.”
Members of this online gang attempted to create a petitition allegedly filled with lies which was eventually shut down by petition.org. Despite the negative comments, the majority of South Africans have shown strong support for Chidimma, defending her against xenophobic attacks and rebutting the false animosity, as evidenced by numerous supportive tweets.
