The menswear season continued last week with the arrival of Paris Fashion Week Men’s Spring/Summer 2023, which fulfilled a full-to-the-brim schedule spanning both already established designers – Dior, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton – and a new generation of talent redefining fashion.

The idea of having a separate men’s fashion week has long started to feel obsolete because gender fluidity is becoming more accepted. This was the case to such an extent that several of the designers that presented their spring 2023 designs in Paris over the past week displayed shows that were primarily male in name only. Yes, there were references to the conventional manhood norms. However, there were a lot of men wearing crop tops and traditionally feminine clothing.

John Elliott opened the week as the first physical fashion show on Tuesday, followed by presentations from Bianca Saunders and Isabel Marant. Thom Browne and Celine closed the festivities on Sunday night. Every designer who showcased at the week-long event had a unique angle that undoubtedly made their presentations special.

Virgil Abloh, the late icon who was one of just a few Black designers to ever head a major Maison before his tragic death last November, will always be connected with Louis Vuitton menswear. Since his passing, the house has continued to pay tribute to him; the most recent example was a boisterous marching band that dominated the runway before being replaced by Kendrick Lamar’s more somber performance. The rapper, who was sporting a Tiffany & Co.-designed crown of thorns, performed songs from his most recent album, “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” while chanting “long live Virgil.”

In a time when it seems like every company is bragging about how much they value sustainability, it may seem expected that Jonathan Anderson used green materials for his most recent Loewe collection. But as soon as you view a picture from the show, you’ll see that the designer’s strategy was unique. Paula Ulargui Escalona, a Spanish bio-designer, employed living, breathing plants to enrich everything from shoes to sweatshirts.

Amongst the new generation of talent showcased at the Paris Fashion Week Men’s Spring/Summer 2023 show was British-Nigerian designer Mowalola. She had a 90’s vibe presentation which she titled “Buglarwear,” inspired by white-collar bankers, Pastors, and internet scammers.

From artists like Kendrick Lamar taking the stage to brands like Dior and Louis Vuitton showing off their latest pieces, it was indeed a great week for fashion. Let’s take a look at our 10 favorite looks from Paris Men’s Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023.
