O.J. Simpson has died aged 76 with the family of the former NFL star revealing he passed away on April 10 after a battle with cancer surrounded by his children and grandchildren

Sun Exclusive: O.J. Simpson, the legendary NFL icon, has sadly passed away at 76 following a courageous battle with cancer, as confirmed by his family.

A heartfelt message shared on his social channels said: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Orenthal James Simpson, after his fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. The family kindly requests privacy during this difficult time.”

The football hero had been fighting prostate cancer, with rumors of his health declining surfacing in February. He debunked these claims then with a social media post.

Simpson was regarded as one of the greatest running backs of all time after spending a decade in the NFL playing for the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. After his football career, Simpson moved into acting. He appeared in various films and TV shows.

However, in 1994, he was falsely accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman after they were found stabbed to death outside her Los Angeles home.

Simpson pleaded not guilty and after a high-profile trial that lasted nearly a year, he was acquitted by a jury.

From his marriage to Marguerite L. Whitley, Simpson had three children: Arnelle, Jason, and the late Aaren, who tragically passed away at just two years old in a swimming pool accident. Both Arnelle and Jason were with him in his final moments, alongside his grandchildren.

Last year, Simpson’s former manager, Norman Pardo, expressed concerns over his deteriorating health, telling RadarOnline.com: “Doctors have advised him to rest at home as treatment options are limited. His health had declined to the point where he could barely manage half a round of golf.”
