There is a very dark side to racism where people are judged by the color of their skin and mistreated badly. Therefore, the word “racism” has always been taboo among dark-skinned black African people. However, for everyone else on the other side of the spectrum, racism is somewhat of a fantasy. It is complimentary, admirable, and favorable.

The Otherside Of Racism
Truth be told, racism wouldn’t be such a demonic term amongst black people if we were to experience favoritism, admiration, and gratitude simply for the color of our skin, as many people on the opposite spectrum of our reality do.

However, this is not unimagineable, this is a reality some black people tend to face around the world. Unfortunately, these stories and visuals aren’t shown to us as much as compared to the ones that dehumanize us. There are countless videos of African women and men around the world receiving much appreciation from natives of different countries.

A tiktoker named King Kwesi (Ghanaian) recently published a video of himself in China and the positive excitement some young Chinese boys had upon meeting him. According to the Ghanaian TikToker, it was the first time meeting a black man, and such encounters are very common in the suburbs. Watch their reaction below.

The excitement some Chinese people may express when seeing black individuals can be attributed to several factors, both historical and contemporary.

1. Novelty and Curiosity: In many parts of China, particularly in areas less exposed to racial diversity, encountering people of different ethnicities can be a relatively rare occurrence. This novelty can spark curiosity and interest.

2. Media and Popular Culture: Black individuals are often represented positively in global media, particularly in music, sports, and entertainment. This can lead to admiration and excitement when encountering someone from a culture associated with these industries.

3. Positive Stereotypes: Some Chinese people may hold positive stereotypes about black people being talented, athletic, or fashionable due to the prominence of black celebrities and influencers in international media.

4. Historical and Cultural Significance: China has a history of engagement with African countries through trade, diplomacy, and student exchanges. This historical connection can foster a sense of familiarity and interest in African cultures and people.

5. Changing Attitudes: With globalization and increased international travel, younger generations in China are becoming more exposed to and appreciative of cultural diversity, leading to more positive and welcoming attitudes towards people of different races and ethnicities.

It’s essential to note that while some Chinese people may express excitement upon encountering black individuals, it’s important to approach such interactions with caution. There are many parts of Asia, such as Indonesia, where the black indigenous people of West Papua are horrifically being brutalized.
