Merely two years post its inauguration, the Freedom Skatepark in Ghana, conceived by the visionary Virgil Abloh, is now on the verge of shuttering. This sanctuary for Ghanaian skateboarders is facing closure due to complications with contractors.

Wole Olosunde, a designer, shared on Instagram that, during his visit to Ghana, he discovered the closure of the Freedom Skatepark, with a cement barrier now preventing skaters from accessing it. The skatepark has allegedly been off-limits for nearly a year, and minimal progress has been made since issues arose last year.

Olosunde concluded his post by questioning why no significant efforts have been made to preserve this integral aspect of Virgil Abloh’s vision, despite all the endeavors to pay homage to him.

According to instagram user @gucawole “Apparently another owner has showed up, stormed the park & built a cement wall then poured sand through the park to keep all skaters out.”
